Scottish Premiership ban on artificial pitches is passed

Scottish Premiership clubs have voted to phase out artificial pitches in the top flight.

Affected clubs will have two years to reinstall grass pitches if they want entry to the top flight.

Clubs in the Premiership had brought forward a resolution seeking to phase out the plastic surfaces, which was issued to all top flight clubs.

This will affect clubs like Hamilton Accies, Airdrie, Livingston and Clyde should they bid to play in the Premiership.

The SPFL board has granted a two-year period to allow clubs with an artificial pitch to plan for the future.

Plans for a Premiership-wide project to work with a leading pitch consultancy firm, which is widely used by UEFA was approved by the SPFL board.

This will improve the standards of grass pitches in the Premiership.
