Scottie Scheffler wins Masters as world No1 lands second Green Jacket with Augusta success

Scottie Scheffler has been crowned Masters champion.

It was a brilliant battle on the final day but it is the world number one who wins the Green Jacket after coming out victorious by four strokes at Augusta to record -11 for the tournament. It is a second triumph in three years for the American after he beat Rory McIlroy to the crown back in 2022 by three.

Earlier in the day Tiger Woods received a very warm reception on the 18th as he finished his round with a five over to claim an overall 16 over finish. The golfing legend has struggled with persistent back problems over the years and it was a mixed weekend after setting a new record after making a 24th consecutive cut but he also recorded his worst ever Masters round.

As the action moved to the evening, It wasn't until near 7.40pm UK time that the final pair got underway and it was a pulsating four plus hours of golf from the leaders as they thrilled the huge numbers in attendance and those watching at home with some quality golf. Scheffler started turning the screw at the 8th, 9th and 10th with birdies on all three to opening up a two shot lead at that point heading into the final eight holes.

Ludvig Aberg went from a big high on the ninth with a superb birdie to a double bogey on the 11th. Colin Morikawa was up there battling early on but a key turning point came on the ninth as he ended up with a double bogey. He then suffered more disappointment with a further double bogey while Max Homa also had difficulty on the 12th as the competition to the top man in golf struggled.

Scheffler remained calm and composed as he opened up a three shot lead through 12. Aberg pulled a shot back on the 13th with a birdie to move within two but the leader matched him to maintain
