Scottie Scheffler needs only two words to get Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka’s attention

Scottie Scheffler has declared himself "extremely prepared" for a showdown this week's PGA Championship at Valhalla as Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka were sent a chilling warning.

World No.1 Scheffler hasn't played competitively since his victory at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town nearly a month ago, as he and his wife Meridith awaited the birth of their first child, who arrived last week. In contrast, world number two McIlroy and current Wannamaker Trophy holder Koepka are in scorching form.

McIlroy is heading to Kentucky on the back of consecutive PGA Tour wins, having clinched the Zurich Classic of New Orleans title with Shane Lowry before storming to victory at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow on Sunday. Five-time major champion Koepka is also at the peak of his game, having cruised to victory at LIV Golf Singapore earlier this month. Known for delivering his best golf on the biggest stage, Scheffler warned that it would be unwise for anyone in this week's field to assume the twice Masters champion might be off his game.

"I think mentally, [I am] just being as present as I can and be committed to my shots, not worrying about the results of things but just being committed to what I'm doing," he told Golf Channel ahead of the season’s second Major, the USPGA which starts on Thursday.

"I want to be as prepared as possible going into an event and standing here today, I feel like I'm extremely prepared and I really feel like my game is in a good spot. I'm excited to get a couple more days of prep work in on the golf course and I'm looking forward to competing this weekend."
