Scottie Scheffler could QUIT the Masters as world no 1 reveals what will always trump golf glory

He may be the Masters favourite and just a point off the lead, but Scottie Scheffler cold QUIT at a moment's notice.

The world no. 1 has been hotly tipped to be donning the green jacket come Sunday evening, even though there's a history of the favourite not winning at Augusta. And the in-form Scheffler has started well in tough conditions, negotiating the strong Georgia winds to card an impressed 66 and o in two under par behind LIV star Bryson DeChambeau.

But the American is ready to run off the course if need be, with wife Meredith due to give birth. This would be the couple's first child together and while Scheffler is hopeful a mad dash won't be needed - and the signs so far are that it won't be - he's in no doubt of his priorities, even if he has an arm in one of those famous sleeves.

"People have asked us how our preparation is going for the baby," said Scheffler. "The nursery is not quite ready and we've had some issues at our house the last few weeks. I think that's the exciting part. I think we are definitely underprepared to be parents.

"As far as her going into labour, I wouldn't say I'm very concerned. We haven't seen any of the early signs. But pregnancy is weird. It can happen at any time. Yeah, open lines of communication and she can get a hold of me if she needs to. I'm ready to go at a moment's notice.

“I’ll be out of here! I think first child wins over quite a... over many things in my life. If she calls me while I’m on the 17th, then I better go home."

Sam Burns as another with a pregnant partner at home and is also ready for quick getaway from Augusta if needed. Burns is T69 on the leaderboard after shooting a three over par round on Thursday.
