Scottie Scheffler breaks silence on PGA Championship arrest as he details JAIL CELL warm up

Scottie Scheffler has spoken for the first time after reportedly being hit with four charges – including second degree assault of a police officer – after his arrest in Louisville.

The golf world No.1 and Masters champion was shown on US TV being led into a police car whole wearing handcuffs on Friday after what was initially reported to be a 'misunderstanding' with the flow of traffic. This follow a pedestrian being hit and killed by a shuttle bus outside the PGA Championship. The man was later named by Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg named him as local man John Mills

Scheffler was stopped at the entrance of the Valhalla Golf Club with a police officer 'screaming' at him to get out the vehicle before he was detained. Scheffler was booked - wearing an orange jumpsuit - before racing back to Valhalla in time for his 10am tee time. But despite all the turbulence, he made six birdies to finish on -9 and climb up to third on the leaderboard. The 27-year-old carded a second-round 66, making only a single bogey along the way, to put himself two shots off leader Collin Morikawa heading into the weekend.

And speaking to the press after returning the clubhouse, he was quizzed on the incident. He told CBS: "First of all, my sympathies go out to the family of Mr Mills. I can't imagine what they are going through this morning.

"One day he is walking to the golf course to watch a tournament, a few moments later he is trying to cross the street, and now he is no longer with us. I feel for them and my situation will get handled. It was a chaotic situation. It was a big misunderstanding.
