Scott Parker provides latest injury update on influential Bournemouth duo

Bournemouth boss Scott Parker has revealed that Gary Cahill’s injury isn’t too serious, although he is still waiting to see how long Ryan Christie will be out for.

The Cherries picked up a huge three points in their quest to win automatic promotion as they came from behind to beat Blackpool 2-1 away from home.

And, that win was all the more impressive when you consider they had to do without centre-back Cahill and attacking midfielder Christie. The duo have been regulars this season but they weren’t involved yesterday, with Parker giving an update on the players when speaking to the Bournemouth Daily Echo.

“Ryan Christie, initial scans are positive. He will see a specialist on Monday, but at this present moment in time, I’m hoping it’s not as bad as first thought and it’s not too serious.

“Gary picked up a little bit of a knee problem yesterday in training. A bit of fluid on the knee. Didn’t think it would be beneficial to get on a plane, fly up here, so just rested that one.”

That would suggest Cahill will be back against Nottingham Forest next week, but there are still doubts over Christie, who has a quad complaint.

The verdict

Losing Cahill and Christie for any lengthy spell would be a blow because they are both quality players at this level and bring a lot to the team.

However, following what was a productive January window, the Cherries have an excellent squad and that was proven yesterday, as they picked up a massive win without Cahill, Christie, Jefferson Lerma and Kieffer Moore among others.

So, whilst Parker will want the players back, he does have a big squad to work with and will feel his team are ready to last the distance.
