Scott McTominay makes Manchester United dressing room claim after 'toxic' issues

Scott McTominay insists the Manchester United dressing room is no longer a "toxic" place, after admitting there had been unrest among players under previous managers at Old Trafford.

Pressure is beginning to build on Erik ten Hag after a run of 11 wins and 11 defeats from the club's first 23 games of the season and United face a do-or-die European night against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Ten Hag is already approaching a crucial juncture in his own tenure and the pressure is beginning to increase after Saturday's historic humbling at the hands of Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Previous managers before the Dutchman have embarked on a similar run of results and paid the price, with Jose Mourinho sacked in December 2018 and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fired in November 2021. Interim boss Ralf Rangnick also found it difficult to win the players over.

Ten Hag had the squad onside last season, with United finishing third and winning the Carabao Cup, their first trophy in six years, but this season has been a struggle and performances have been as bad as results.

But there is a desire within the hierarchy at Old Trafford to keep faith with Ten Hag and McTominay insists the players remain firmly in his corner, despite the start to this season, and they want to end the cycle of boom and bust for United managers.

"It is the players’ responsibility, first and foremost, the players know that as well. We have had many amazing players and right now we are at the stage where we have big characters in the dressing room," he said.
