Scott McTominay confirms when rest of Manchester United squad will return for pre-season

Scott McTominay has confirmed that he and the rest of the Manchester United first-team members who are yet to report back for pre-season will return to Carrington on Saturday.

Those who played for their country in last month’s internationals were given an extended break by Erik ten Hag ahead of United’s friendly with Lyon at Murrayfield in Scotland next Wednesday.

The Reds will then embark on a nine-day tour of the US, where they will face Arsenal on July 22 before fixtures against Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. United will close out their pre-season with friendlies against Lens and Athletic Club.

They have already taken on Leeds in Oslo, Norway for their first friendly of the summer where Mason Mount made his club debut in a youth-packed side. He will get to meet more of his new club teammates this weekend when the whole squad returns to gear up for the new season.

Asked by Sky Sports when he was due to return for pre-season following a round of golf at the Genesis Scottish Open with Aston Villa and fellow Scotland star John McGinn, McTominay said: “On Saturday. So we’re all back in and then we’ve got a lot of games coming up so it’ll be good.”

A lot has been speculated about McTominay’s future at United, and whether he could be subject to an exit amid Mount’s arrival. United are set to fund some arrivals with the sales of current players with the likes of Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly up for sale.

Ten Hag’s plans for midfield exits is not clear but Fred, 30, is being tracked by Fulham. United have already said goodbye to one midfielder after sanctioning a €1m transfer to FC Utrecht for Zidane Iqbal.
