Scotland vs Poland friendly rubber stamped to replace Ukraine World Cup play off

Scotland's proposed friendly against Poland later this month has been given the go ahead.

Steve Clarke's side were scheduled to play Ukraine in a World Cup play-off semi-final on March 24 but the tie has been postponed due to Russia's ongoing invasion.

With the Ukrainians unable to field a team, it's hoped the match will now be played in June.

Poland were due to face Russia in a separate semi-final path but the Russians' suspension from participation means they were given a bye into the final.

And they will warm up for that match by playing Steve Clarke's side at Hampden in 10 days' time.

A UEFA statement said: "As a result of FIFA’s decisions on 8 March 2022 to postpone the European Qualifying play-off match for the 2022 FIFA World Cup between Scotland and Ukraine, and to grant Poland a bye to the final of Path B, UEFA acknowledges that Scotland and Poland have agreed to play a friendly match on Thursday 24 March 2022 (20:45 CET) at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
