Scotland set for Hampden friendly as Poland step in after Ukraine World Cup play off postponement

Poland have confirmed they are in talks with the SFA to play Scotland in a friendly, after the World Cup semi-final, play-offs were postponed.

Scotland's game against war-torn Ukraine has been postponed until June and Poland was granted a bye into the final after Russia was expelled.

With every country in Europe - apart from San Marino - involved in fixtures on March 24, the Scots and their Polish counterparts are in talks to meet in a friendly against each other.

However, Scotland - who will also play either Wales or Austria away - are keen for the match to go ahead at Hampden, while Poland want to play the match at Chorzow instead.

And Polish FA spokesman Jakub Kwiatkowski has revealed discussions are ongoing with their SFA counterparts.

He said: "When we look at the international calendar, we see that every European team is playing on this date.

"But obviously, Scotland are now available after their game against Ukraine was postponed by FIFA.

"Talks are underway between the associations and it is possible we could play Scotland on the date where we would have been expected to play Russia.

"However, at the moment it is too early to confirm this match will be on one hundred per cent.

"At the moment, we have a training camp instead, but that would be completely different if we were now to play against Scotland."

Scotland last played the Poles in the qualifiers for Euro 2016 where the nations fought out a couple of 2-2 draws in Warsaw and Glasgow, but it was Poland who qualified.
