Scotland on course for Pot 2 at Euro 2024 as stunning start to qualifying has Steve Clarke on track for history

Scotland are on course to go into Pot 2 and land a favourable group at Euro 2024 according to current projections.

Steve Clarke and his team are off to a flying start to qualifying and a win over Georgia at Hampden on Tuesday night would put us on the brink of a second successive Euros even at this early stage. Victory in Oslo on Saturday made it three wins from three and a victory in Tuesday's clash with Kvaradona and Co would see Scotland seal their best ever start to Euro qualifying.

There is work to do yet but qualification is firmly in our hands having already beaten Spain at home and Norway away - two of the games where dropped points may have been legislated for. It leaves Scotland on nine points and according to projections from We Global Football, well on track for Pot 2 when the finals come around in 12 months' time. The pots are decided on the overall qualifying record and Scotland are given a 45.9 per cent chance of going in as one of the better ranked qualifiers, which would stand us in good stead for the group stage draw.

There are still plenty of variables but as things stand we would avoid the likes of Croatia, Denmark and the Czech Republic - each of whom are on track to join us in Pot 2. Hosts Germany are the only side guaranteed to qualify while Portugal, Switzerland, England, France and Serbia – who each have 100 per cent records at this stage – are tipped to be top seeds.

Some teams in the projections, such as Serbia, have only played two games so there is plenty of room for change. But should Scotland win on Tuesday, we could potentially be the only team with a 100 per cent record after four games.
