Scotland hero Kieran Tierney warns Euro 2024 qualification isn't in the bag yet

Arsenal star Kieran Tierney says Scotland are in a great position to qualify for Euro 2024 – but haven’t achieved anything yet.

And the former Celtic hero has praised boss Steve Clarke for keeping faith with him even when the Gunners didn’t.

The 26-year-old from Muirhouse is in the 25-man squad for tonight’s crucial qualifier against Cyprus in Larnaca and Tuesday’s 150th anniversary special match against England at Hampden n Tuesday.

With a 100 per cent record in Group A, Scotland are in a good place to qualify for the finals, but haven’t yet got it over the line.

He told the Scottish Sun : “The manager has said 12 points is good for where we’re at and it’s true, but it still doesn’t qualify you.

“We’ve done nothing yet, and everything we’ve done so far will mean nothing if we don’t get any more points.

“No-one is getting carried away.

“We’re in a great position, but we now what football can be like.

“But it’s the best I’ve felt with Scotland.

“We’re really building as a team and it’s got that club feeling about it.”

Tierney last month joined Spanish side Real Sociedad on a season-long loan after being frozen out by Mikel Arteta at the Emirates.

The defender has no such problems with Scotland, and is looking to build on his 39 caps tonight.

He said: “One of the first things I did after getting the move was thank Steve Clarke.

“He showed faith in me all through the season and he played me every single game.

“I wasn’t playing for Arsenal and there might have been some people questioning why I would play for Scotland, but Steve was brilliant.

“That’s why I texted him straight away.

“I got an awful lot of confidence from playing for Scotland.
