Scotland are crowned Curling World Champions

Team Mouat left their best performance until last as they over powered hosts Canada and soared to a flawless World Championship victory in Ottawa. Scotland clinched a 9-3 win over their opponents in a high-stakes final showdown, with the winning rink all shooting at over 90 per cent accuracy. Ad Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan started on the right foot and never let Canada hold a stake in the game, grabbing victory in just eight ends.

CurlingScotland seal gold at World Curling Championships4 HOURS AGO An unexpectedly comfortable victory according to the Scottish skip. «I didn't expect the final to go that way,» said Mouat. «I just can't really believe it happened the way it did.

»It felt like we were going to have to play a shot to win it in the 10th or 11th end, so it was just an unbelievable performance from all of the guys. «To bring a game like that in a championship final means a lot.» Team Mouat have now completed a full set of World Championship medal, having won silver in 2021 and bronze in 2018. A textbook start against Brad Gushue's home side put Scotland ahead by two after the second end and forcing the Canadian's to take solitary singles.

Gushue overshot a crucial stone early on which allowed his opposition to extend their lead and seal the deal. And with the title of World Champions now on their back, Team Mouat are already looking ahead to overcoming their 2022 Olympic final disappointment in Milan-Cortina and adding Olympic gold to their CV. «Having such a big lead early on made me more nervous,» he said.
