Scot Laura Muir wins Great Britain's first medal at World Championships in Eugene
Scotland's Laura Muir has won Great Britain’s first medal at the athletics World Championships in the US.
The Scot won the bronze medal in the 1500m at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in three minutes 55.28 seconds. Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon won gold and Gudaf Tsegay took silver.
Muir's medal comes after English sprinter Dina Asher-Smith qualified for the 200m semi-final at Hayward Field on Monday evening. Asher-Smith ran 22.56 seconds to come second in her heat just a day after finishing fourth in the 100m final despite equalling her British record of 10.83 seconds.
English heptathlete Katarina Mary Johnson-Thompson finished eighth in the heptathlon as Nafi Thiam regained the title she lost to the Great Britain star three years ago. She was never expected to retain the crown after injury and coaching changes and the 29-year-old finished 533 behind the medal places.
