Schools rugby wrap: DHS down Maritzburg College, Durbanville shock Paarl Boys’ High

Durban High School held on by the skin of their teeth to beat rivals Maritzburg College 14-7 in the Premier Interschools first team rugby clash at DHS on Saturday.

Tries from DHS flanker Dale Hendrikse and scrumhalf Florensen Ockhuis sealed the win for the home side in a match that ended in dramatic fashion.

The final five minutes saw College piling on the pressure in a desperate search for the tying score, but some resolute defence by DHS kept them at bay.

In the final minute, College thought they scored their second try through No 8 Sasha Kadira, but referee Cameron Smith ruled that the ball was held up.

Elsewhere, there were thrilling schools matches across the country as several festivals took place.

In perhaps the biggest shock, Durbanville stunned Paarl Boys' High 26-25 in the main match of the annual "Porterville Bulfees".

Durbanville flyhalf Shaun Klein kicked a last-minute penalty to seal an historic win for "Durbies". Klein contributed 21 points to his side's cause.

Durbanville's town rivals, Stellenberg, almost caused another shock when they lost by only 24-23 to Paarl Gimnasium.

At the Graeme College 150th festival, SACS beat Graeme College 19-5 while Grey College beat St Andrews College 48-0.
