Schools rugby: Mud baths and a Monumental upset from EG Jansen
Schoolboy rugby over the weekend offered up a few surprises and a considerable amount of mud as EG Jansen upset Monument and Graeme College defeated Grey High.
Boksburg's EG Jansen travelled to Krugersdorp to deliver their first win over the mighty Monument, a sound 41-17 defeat, since 2015.
A hat-trick of tries from EG Jansen centre Jeandre Jacobs, as well as a 50m dash to the tryline by David Twala sealed a fine day for the visitors in handing the Monnas "Wit Bulle" their first loss in the Noordvaal Cup since the 2019 semi-finals.
EG Jansen, who have not lifted the Noordvaal Cup in a decade, and Garsfontein remain unbeaten this season.
The Jansies will look to consolidate their place at the top of the table when they meet struggling Menlo Park next, while Monument travel to Cup favourites Garsfontein for a juicy showdown.
