School pupils caught swiping from Coop on their lunch breaks in leafy Cheshire village

Police have urged parents in a leafy Cheshire village to talk to their children after youngsters were seen swiping items from a Coop on their lunch breaks.

Officers say they are searching through CCTV and speaking to staff at Poynton High School to try and name those responsible. The schoolchildren are reported to have targeted the Coop store on School Lane, Poynton.

In an appeal to parents, police prompted them to chat with their kids about the "consequences of shoplifting".

On their Poynton West and Adlington Police Facebook page, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police wrote: "PARENTS we have been made aware of students shoplifting items from The Co-op, School Lane, Poynton during school lunch time.

"If your child is allowed out during school lunch time we strongly advise that you speak to your child about the consequences of shoplifting/theft.

"We are working closely with Co-op staff and the High School and we are currently reviewing CCTV of the thefts that have took place. Those identified will be visited by Police and dealt with accordingly."
