Scarlets end season on a high with Judgement Day win amid Wales injury concern

The Scarlets ended their season with a bonus point 32-15 victory over the Dragons at Judgement Day in Cardiff.

Both sides had little to play for at the Cardiff City Stadium, besides the opportunity to cap off a difficult campaign with a victory.

Tries from Kemsley Mathias, Dan Davis.and a double from Tomi Lewis ensured it would be the Scarlets who finished the season on a high, despite a late try double by Sio Tomkinson for the Dragons.

There was a Wales injury concern in front of Warren Gatland, with Aaron Wainwright forced off at half-time.

The Dragons had opened the scoring after nine minutes, when Scarlets lock Sam Lousi - back in the side after a rib injury - was pinged for a no-arms tackle. Dragons fly-half Will Reed knocking over the first penalty of the afternoon.

Soon, the Scarlets would be level - with Sam Costelow capitalising from the tee after the Dragons were penalised after trying to run it from deep.

Another of Costelow's efforts at goal would sail just wide, but it wouldn't matter as the power of his pack helped the Scarlets forge ahead.

After winning a penalty against the head at a scrum, the west Walians went to the corner - with their forwards rumbling over from the maul for Wales loosehead Mathias to score just before the half-hour mark.

Moments later, Dwayne Peel's side would be reduced to 14 men - with centre Eddie James sent to the sin-bin for a high tackle on opposite number Aneurin Owen that saw the Dragons midfielder depart for a HIA.

There were to be other injury concerns in the first-half, with Dragons No. 8 Wainwright visibly limping and Costelow forced off for a HIA. The latter would return, but the Wales back-row was forced off at the break in scenes which will worry Gatland.
