Saudi Pro League spending hits $57m over summer window

DUBAI: Total spending in the Saudi Pro League over the current summer transfer window has hit $57 million, according to Transfermarkt.

According to their latest data ahead of the SPL 2026-2027 season, which kicks off on Aug. 13, the number of incoming players has reached 107, while the number of outgoing players has reached 154 so far.

The website, which specializes in football statistics, indicated an average expenditure of $3.08 million per club, noting that the total market value of the league’s players is $1.14 billion.

The website pointed out that these figures remain provisional as the summer transfer window is still open and will very likely change in the coming weeks.

Transfermarkt’s report also highlighted that the figure of $57 million takes into account transfer fees between clubs and not the total economic cost of contracting the players. This does not include salaries, signing bonuses, agent commissions, image rights, accommodation, or any other contractual costs.

The SPL is also gradually moving from signing big-name stars to players who can contribute for several seasons and maintain their value when resold.
