Saudi Athletics Federation announces launch of inaugural Saudi Athletics Grand Prix
RIYADH: The Saudi Athletics Federation has announced the launch of the inaugural Saudi Athletics Grand Prix – Riyadh 2026, set to take place on May 15–16 at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University Stadium.
The event will open with the World Athletics Continental Tour meeting (Bronze level), followed by the International Challenge Meeting. It is expected to attract between 200 and 300 athletes from over 50 countries, competing across 31 track and field events for both men and women.
This initiative reflects the strong support extended to the sports sector and aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as a global sports destination. The event also marks a significant milestone, coinciding with the 63rd anniversary of Saudi athletics.
Furthermore, the Grand Prix represents a key step toward the launch of the Saudi Elite Athletics League, scheduled for 2027.
The Federation’s Managing Director, Majed Basonbul, emphasized that the Grand Prix highlights the Kingdom’s growing presence on the international stage and strengthens its position as a key player in the sport of athletics.
