Sarah Lavin seals seventh National Indoor title as championship records fall on day one

Sarah Lavin stormed home to win her seventh 123.ie National Indoor title in the women's 60m hurdles.

Team Ireland's joint flagbearer at last summer's Paris 2024 Olympics eased through her heat at the National Sports Campus in 8.11 seconds before the Limerick native set an identical time in the final to claim victory ahead of Molly Scott by 0.23 seconds.

Scott's fellow St Laurence O'Toole AC club-mate Arabella Adekoya finished third.

Lavin clipped her opening hurdle but recovered superbly to continue her national championship-winning run, with her thoughts now turning towards next month's European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

Another St Laurence O'Toole AC athlete featured prominently in the men's 60m hurdles as Adam Nolan successfullydefended his title in a time of 7.95 ahead of Sean Carmody and Emmanuel Osas.

Moyne AC's Katie Bergin triumphed in the women's 200m final, with Kate O'Connell and Molly Hourihan taking silver and bronze respectively, while Marcus Lawler of Clonliffe Harriers AC won the men's final in a championship record time of 20.74.

Sarah Healy put in a dominant performance in the heats of the women's 1500m with a championship record 4:12.37 as the UCD AC set herself up nicely for Sunday afternoon's final.

Fellow Paris 2024 Olympian Sharlene Mawdsley set a fastest time of 52.86 in the women's 400m semi-final heats and she will be joined by Cliodhna Manning, Lauren Cadden, Rachel McCann, Phil Healy, and Arlene Crossan in tomorrow's final.

Conor Kelly of Derry Track Club set a new national U20 record of 46.63 after a breathtaking run in the semi-final of the men's 400m, bettering the longstanding mark previously set by David McCarthy.
