Samoan batsman Darius Visser makes cricket history as world record 39 runs are scored in an over

Samoan batsman Darius Visser on Tuesday broke the men's T20I record for most runs scored in an over (39).

Visser's heroics came in a T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Region Qualifier against Vanuatu in Apia.

Visser, who is 28 and resides in Sydney, smashed six sixes in a 39-run over from Nalin Nipiko. There were also three no balls bowled in the over.

Visser eventually scored 132 from 62 balls as Samoa posted 174. This was also the highest percentage (75.86%) of runs scored by a batsman in a team's innings.

Visser later also bagged a wicket (1 for 29) as Samoa restricted Vanuatu to 164 for 9 to win the game by 10 runs.

The previous world record for most runs in an over in T20Is was 36 which was achieved on five occasions.

India's Yuvraj Singh was the first batsman to achieve six sixes in an over when he managed the feat against England's Stuart Broad at the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa.

The West Indies' Kieron Pollard repeated the feat against Sri Lanka's Akila Dananjaya in 2021, and Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee managed it earlier this year against Qatar.

The two other 36-run overs did not have six sixes - the West Indies managed it against Afghanistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and India also scored 36 against Afghanistan this year.
