Sam Patterson becomes the latest British MMA fighter to earn UFC contract

Sam Patterson became the latest fighter from the United Kingdom to earn a UFC contract last night thanks to a remarkable submission win.

The UFC has been producing some fantastic fights in recent months and a lot of them have come from the Contender Series. The Tuesday night platform is used as a way to test the waters with some new talent, seeing whether or not they’re truly ready for the big time.

Last night, five more names were signed to a UFC contract to cap off another remarkable season of action from top to bottom.

Bo Nickal made plenty of headlines as a result of his star power heading into his contest, but a few other fighters stood out as ‘under the radar’ ones to watch for the rest of the year and beyond.

That includes Sam Patterson, the 26-year-old from Walford, who is now the latest Englishman to sign on the dotted line and join the ranks of the UFC elite.

Patterson submitted Vinicius Cenci via rear-naked choke in the second round of their collision and seemingly did enough to impress the boss.

In his post-fight media scrum, ‘The Future’ went into detail about how it feels to be on the UFC roster.

“It hasn’t completely sunk in right now – I’m on cloud nine. If I’m honest, I’m on cloud nine, and I don’t plan on coming off anytime soon. I’m gonna enjoy the week with my team, enjoy some cake, soak it all in, and start preparing for what’s next.”

Patterson went on to note that he wasn’t overly pleased with his performance.
