Salford Red Devils bosses say club could be WEEKS from folding due to ongoing AJ Bell Stadium dispute

The future of Salford Red Devils is in jepoardy due to a row over the ownership of its stadium, the club says. Currently, the city council are 50-50 joint owners of the AJ Bell Stadium, its two training pitches and car park with property giant Peel.

But the future of the stadium, which is home to both Salford Red Devils and Sale Sharks, has been in doubt since co-owners Peel Holdings moved to sell their stake. The council has tabled a plan to buy the property giant's share but opposition councillors are fiercely against the move. Conservative councillors, led by Councillor Robin Garrido, succeeded in getting the plan 'called-in', the process by which major decisions are reviewed.

It has led to a protracted process over the stadium's future and, in a statement issued today, the club said it could fold if the wrangle was not resolved within weeks in a scathing statement about Salford City Council.

Today's statement comes following months of anger over delays. The Manchester Evening News reported in August that the dispute was causing "significant financial hardship" to the rugby league club, according the board members.

In August, Red Devils board member Oli Randall said "the delays over the clarification of the future ownership of the stadium is already causing significant financial hardship for it tenants."

And, in a statement today, the club said: "Until this point, we have been bound by good faith and an understanding that our cooperation would result in a timely and fair agreement on securing our future at the stadium built
