Salford murder investigation sees bin collections suspended as detectives hunt for body parts after man's torso found

Bin collections in parts of Salford have been suspended as police investigate a murder. Officers are hunting for more body parts after a grim discovery last Thursday (April 4).

They are checking wheelie bins in case the killer used one to hide remains. It comes after a Torso was found at Kersal Wetlands.

In a social media post, deputy city mayor and Broughton councillor John Merry, said: "At the request of GMP bin collections in the Kersal area and parts of Broughton have been suspended while investigations relating to murder are carried out. The council will endeavour to restart them as soon as possible."

Six days on from a horrific discovery the search continues for clues to the identity of the murder victim. It was Thursday afternoon when human remains were found in woodland at Kersal, Salford.

A man's torso was found, but tests are continuing to establish his ethnicity. A member of the public found the remains wrapped in multiple layers of cellophane near Radford Street. The victim has not been identified, though he is thought to be 'older than 40' and 'has only been dead for a matter of days', officers said.

Emergency services were initially alerted to the scene at 5.50 pm on Thursday, prompting the erection of an evidence tent in the woods.

A huge amount of resources have been deployed daily in a search of the Kersal Dale area. One possibility is that other body parts may have been disposed of in the nearby River Irwell and underwater search units have been used.

On Monday divers were spotted manoeuvring in and out of the cordoned-off area, augmenting the search efforts alongside police and sniffer dogs as they meticulously combed the wetlands and adjoining woodland for further evidence.
