Salah vs Son: The moment Spurs star realised Golden Boot race was level

Heung-min Son’s 2021/22 Premier League campaign was simply magnificent.

Without the South Korean superstar, Tottenham Hotspur would certainly not have finished fourth and qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Son scored 23 goals throughout the campaign and not a single one of them came from the penalty spot.

When you remember that he’s not an out-and-out striker, that return is pretty darn extraordinary.

Son’s tally of 23 goals saw him share the Premier League Golden Boot award with Liverpool‘s Mohamed Salah – who is also not a centre-forward by trade.

For a little while on the final day of the season, it looked as if the Spurs man would claim the accolade outright.

Son scored a brace in his side’s 5-0 demolition of Norwich City at Carrow Road, the latter of the two goals coming in the 75th minute.

But Salah then drew level in the Golden Boot race in the 84th minute of Liverpool’s 3-1 home victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

And it appears Spurs were keen to make Son aware of that fact during the game against Norwich.

Footage has surfaced on social media in which the former Bayer Leverkusen man appears to say “Salah scored?” with a rather annoyed look on his face.

Son didn’t look overly impressed, did he?

The ambidextrous forward obviously wanted to have the Golden Boot all to himself, which is certainly understandable.

But despite the fact he has to share the prize with Salah, the fact remains that Son is the first Asian player to win the Golden Boot in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

That’s some achievement and he will almost certainly go down as the continent’s greatest ever player.
