Saints turn to sinners as St Cuthbert Wanderers lose to Newton Stewart

Two St Cuthbert Wanderers players proved to be sinners at Newton Stewart on Saturday.

Dylan Paberzs was sent off for swearing and Seyi Fadun also saw red against the league leaders, who recorded a 3-0 win.

And Saints boss Ian Clark admitted: “I think the discipline is something myself and the coaches need to address, especially as the first red card was for verbals again, which annoys me.

“The referees must have some form of directive come out from the league to clamp down on it and it’s frustrating for me as it wasn’t aimed at anyone but the referee has deemed it a sending off.

“Some of the language that follows was equally as bad and nothing gets done. The consistency for me isn’t there, which frustrates me more than anything.

“If he deems the first a sending off then you end the game with 16 players on the park.

“The other red card was a stamp – the Newton player treads on his toes and Seyi retaliates. You can’t give a referee a decision to make.

“The way the nine men on the park responded was good and the lads did well.

“We frustrated a very good Newton team. They dug deep and it’s promising in that sense but my main concern is the discipline – or lack of – which seems to have crept in.”

The home side took the lead after 25 minutes when Craig McCulloch forced the ball home.

Zak Service doubled the lead soon after before Saints were reduced to 10 men when Paberzs was given his marching orders.

Newton got their third after an hour when Marc Whyte headed home, with Fadun also sent off.

One bright spot for Clark was the performance of youngster Christopher Wilson, who has recently stepped up from Saints Colts to the first team.
