Sainsbury’s rewarding shoppers with extra Nectar points for buying fruit and veg in holidays

Sainsbury’s have brought back one of their popular shopping challenges which sees customers earn up to 750 bonus Nectar points when they buy certain products. The Great Fruit & Veg challenge will encourage shoppers to buy more healthy fresh produce during the school summer holidays.

This summer marks the third year Sainsbury’s and Nectar have run the challenge, with almost one million customers having previously taken part. It’s estimated the scheme has seen a whopping 106 million portions of fruit and veg purchased over the six weeks.

The challenge uses fun, interactive targets to encourage customers to pick up more fruit and vegetables when shopping at Sainsbury’s. In return, they will be rewarded with bonus Nectar points that can be spent at partners including Sainsbury’s, Argos, and Habitat.

Running until September 2, customers can sign into the Nectar app to view their personalised targets based on their typical shopping habits, enabling each user to earn up to 750 bonus points.

Nectar app users can earn points in two ways, including by completing three overall goals based on the number of portions of fruit and veg purchased, with up to 350 points up for grabs. There are also eight product badges to collect, worth 50 bonus points each, earned by purchasing portions of specific fruit and vegetables, such as strawberries, tomatoes, and broccoli.

This year, the challenge has been extended from four to seven weeks for the first time, giving customers longer to collect their badges and earn points throughout the summer holidays.
