Saido Berahino opens up on his 'patient' wait for first Sheffield Wednesday goal

Sheffield Wednesday forward Saido Berahino has admitted that he's had to be patient for his opportunity but believes he took it after scoring in the Owls' 3-1 win at Doncaster Rovers.

Dan Gardner gave Rovers the lead at the Eco-Power Stadium, before goals from Callum Paterson, Berahino and Barry Bannan turned the game on its head.

It was the Owls' fifth win in six matches and the result moves them level on points with six-place Wycombe Wanderers and Sunderland, who sit just outside the play-offs.

There's some optimism around the club that Wednesday can now finish inside the top-six and currently sit second in the League One form table - only behind league leaders Rotherham United.

Meanwhile, Berahino is someone who has struggled for regular game time since joining the Owls last summer but he made a major impact in his side's comeback at Doncaster.

The 28-year-old met a Lewis Gibson cut back and drilled the ball home for his first goal in a Wednesday shirt, sparking jubilant scenes in the away end.

On his return to action, Berahino said: "It has been difficult (not playing), of course. As a player you want to play.

"I had to be patient. Some of the other lads were in my shoes. I remember when I first signed, [Florian] Kamberi was not getting as many chances.

"The good thing about the manager is he keeps you involved even when you are not playing so that has helped.

"You can't complain if the team are winning. You can't change a winning team and we have started this year really well. I had to be patient and my chance came against Doncaster and I thought I took it well."

This could provide Berahino a chance to build on a positive 45-minute performance ahead of the run-in, where Wednesday will surely require more firepower
