Safety concerns ahead of F1 race: No tecpro barrier as crashes mar Miami GP

The absence of a tecpro barrier at the exit of Turn 13 was the talk of the Miami Grand Prix on Saturday after Esteban Ocon and Carlos Sainz were both injured in crashes.

Valtteri Bottas said: "It will be a talking point at the next drivers' briefing in Spain. There was no reason that there was no tecpro barrier."

Drivers Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly were also very surprised by the severity of Sainz and Ocon's impacts, and Lance Stroll called it "ridiculous" and "a joke".

Ocon told Autosport.com it was "unacceptable" to experience a 51G impact and questioned the lack of tecpro barrier at Turn 13.

Ocon crashed into the concrete banner after losing the rear of his car during final practice. It was the same spot where Sainz hit the barrier in practice on Friday.

The absence of a tecpro barrier was then brought up in the drivers' briefing.

Ocon was subsequently taken to the medical centre for a check-up and was cleared. But the Alpine had a cracked chassis which meant he could no longer take part in qualifying.

He will start from the back of the grid on Sunday.

"What is unacceptable really, it was 51G for what should have been not such a big impact," the Frenchman said.

"To not have it and [for only] one car it has happened, but when Carlos has complained to the race director, we were all there listening to it, and nothing has been done.

"There was a discussion last night. Carlos said the impact was way too big for what it should have been. Saturday, it felt huge, the impact. It's probably the biggest shunt of my career, to be fair.

"Yesterday Carlos got hurt. I got hurt as well.
