Sabotage ends Mid-Antrim 150 race action

Today’s Mid-Antrim 150 road races have been cancelled after saboteurs coated parts of the track in glass and oil.

The Clough Club released a statement earlier that read: “Sadly due to circumstances beyond our control, race day of the Mid-Antrim 150 road race is cancelled.”

As this was to be the final road race of the 2022 season and unlike short circuit races due the organisation and work involved in running a road race the meeting cannot be rescheduled.

Prior to this weekend Michael Sweeney had already claimed the Superbike and Supertwin titles but the Supersport was still up for grabs.

BE Racing/RK Racing’s Mike Browne had a 14 point lead over his fellow Southern Irish rival and would have been the favourite to lift the title even if racing had taken place. But due to the circumstances the much anticipated final duel did not take place and Browne added the Supersport championship to his Moto3 title which he had sealed earlier in the season.

It is believed that objectors thought it disrespectful to run the event after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
