Monday's SA20 player auction at the CTICC in Cape Town was a marathon affair, dragging on for eight hours before all six franchises had completed their 17-man squads.
The tournament, which takes place from January 2023, sees six Indian Premier League owners investing in South African franchises and financing a tournament that has long been considered vital to the future sustainability of cricket in this country.
There were the failed T20 Global League and Mzansi Super League ventures, but the hope is that this time, South Africa will have a T20 product that ticks the right boxes and develops into a lucrative money spinner on the international circuit.
In that regard, Monday's auction was surely a step in the right direction.
