SA teenage cricket sensation Dewald Brevis signs up for inaugural 6IXTY

South African teenage batting sensation Dewald Brevis has signed up to play in the inaugural THE 6IXTY event in the Caribbean.

The 19-year-old will represent the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, who also boast West Indies legend Chris Gayle in their ranks. Gayle is the brand ambassador for the new innovative tournament which runs from 24-28 August.

The Patriots have also roped in South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius. Brevis and Pretorius will also feature for the Patriots in the T20 Caribbean Premier League from 31 August.

Other South Africans in the six-team 6IXTY event are Migael Pretorius (Jamaica Tallawahs), Corbin Bosch (Barbados Royals), and Heinrich Klaasen (Guyana Amazon Warriors).

The 6IXTY is a 10-over format but has very different rules compared to other T10 competitions.

Each innings has only six wickets, and bowlers will bowl back-to-back five overs from each end instead of changing it after each over. Teams can win another powerplay over if they hit two sixes in the first powerplay overs.

One fielder will be removed for the final over if the bowling side fails to finish an innings in 45 minutes, so there will be only 10 fielders on the pitch.

6IXTY also introduces a new 'Mystery Free Hit' feature, in which fans can vote on the app, and the batter cannot be dismissed on that delivery.

Brevis, meanwhile, is also set to play for the Kandy Falcons in the Lanka Premier League, which starts on 31 July.

Earlier in the year, Brevis made headlines when he broke the record for the most runs scored in the U19
