SA's Marais Erasmus to umpire T20 World Cup final

South Africa's Marais Erasmus will umpire the final of the ICC T20 World Cup between England and Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Erasmus and Sri Lanka's Kumar Dharmasena would assume on-field duties for the much-anticipated final at the MCG.

Chris Gaffaney will be the TV umpire for the match, while Paul Reiffel will be the fourth umpire. Ranjan Madugalle will be the match referee for the final.

Erasmus and Dharmasena umpired together in the 2019 Cricket World Cup final between England and New Zealand, with that match also littered in controversial moments that saw both umpires get key decisions wrong.

Pakistan roared to victory at the 2009 T20 World Cup, defeating Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the final, while England won the T20 World Cup title in 2010 with a seven-wicket win over Australia.

Ahead of this weekend's final, England are deemed as favourites against Pakistan, who roared back in the tournament after losing their first two matches of the tournament.

However, rain could though spoil the party with a 100 percent chance of showers forecast and even severe thunderstorms.

A reserve day has been set aside on Monday.

Play on Sunday starts at 10:00 SA time.
