SA MotoGP ace Brad Binder backs Kyalami for Formula 1 return

With rumours circulating that South Africa would soon be added to the Formula One calendar, MotoGP star Brad Binder says it would be incredible for motorsport in the country should that be the case.

Binder was speaking to The Citizen at Kyalami this week, where he attended a Red Bull promotional event.

Red Bull is the sponsor of Binder's KTM team in MotoGP.

On Tuesday, various media reports said that the South African Grand Prix would return to the Gauteng track in 2023, 30 years after the last Formula One race in the country.

The clamour to have a Grand Prix in the country has received the backing of many F1 stars, including current world champion Max Verstappen and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

"I believe it isn't a done deal yet. But once it is finalised, I will definitely be here," said Binder.

"It will be incredible for the country. And further than that, for Kyalami itself and the whole of the racing community. Motor racing is huge in South Africa."

Naturally, Binder also believes South Africa should host a MotoGP race as well, something that last happened in 2004 at Phakisa.

"It is something I am really pushing hard for. I would love to have a home Grand Prix," he said.

"It is something I really look forward to and is something I believe will happen in future. The track is really amazing.
