SA duo Harris and Klaasen steamroll on at Australian Open

Lloyd Harris and Raven Klaasen continued their winning ways in the Australian Open men's doubles event on Saturday.

The South African duo triumphed 6-4, 6-4 in the second round over French pair Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul.

Harris and Klaasen were much slicker and more in the groove on Saturday during their straight sets win.

They started their men's doubles campaign with a 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (11/9) win over Pedro Martinez (Spain) and Thiago Monteiro (Brazil).

Harris said he felt "way more refreshed and way more lively" on court on Saturday. "I was able to play a better standard of tennis."

There was also a feeling that they "were better connected today" and "enjoyed the faster conditions" resulting from warmer weather and very little wind at Melbourne Park.

When asked about their serving performance during Saturday's match. Harris responded: "I had the consistency but Raven had the pop!"

The motto of the South Africans is to "take it one point at a time, compete, and win every point."

Regarding their third round opponents, Marcel Granollers (Spain) and Horacio Zeballos (Argentina), doubles specialist Klaasen was more familiar with them than Harris.

"We'll go out there give it a good show and get stuck in."

'Steamrolling along'

On a more light-hearted note, Harris and Klaasen were probed on what animal they would be on the tennis court.

Klaasen responded: "I'd definitely be a fox. My nickname from Lloyd is Foxy."

Harris added: "I'm more a Cape Buffalo stumbling over everyone!"

In terms of the progress of the Harris-Klaasen train, Harris summed it up best: 'We’re steamrolling along!"
