SA A clinch One-Day series in Harare after superb all-round effort

A stellar all-round performance from South Africa A saw the side cruise to victory against Zimbabwe XI in Harare and seal the One-Day series 2-1 on Friday.

Tony de Zorzi and Khaya Zondi notched up half-centuries with Proteas all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo taking four wickets as SA A won by 36-runs against 

The hosts once again won the toss and elected to field, as Heinrich Klaasen's charges posted a 287/9 in their 50 overs.

Openers, De Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton shared a 98-run stand before Rickelton fell short of fifty when he was dismissed by Wellington Masakadza for 47 off 52 balls. 

De Zorzi went on to score 78 from 92 deliveries (hitting 7 fours), while Zondo added 60 from 69 in an innings peppered with false starts from the rest of the top and middle orders.

Phehlukwayo was the third-highest run scorer with a quick-fire 29 from 25, while Klaasen chipped in with 17 off 15.

Masakadza and Tanaka Chivanga were the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of 4/44 and 3/43 respectively. 

In reply, Zimbabwe's Zimbabwe's Kevin Kasuza top-scored with 66 off 99 balls as the South African bowlers made quick work of the top and middle orders.

Wicketkeeper Richmond Mutumbami scored 39 from 37 included five boundaries and a six, before Bjorn Fortuin saw him of. 

Donald Tiripano (48) and Masakadza (32) were the last line of defence, bringing their team close enough to give them hope, but both departed in quick succession.

Phehlukwayo wrapped up the innings as he ended on four for 32 in 6.2 overs as Zimbabwe XI was bowled out for 251 in 47.2 overs.

The T20 series begins on Monday, 2 May at the same venue (Harare Sports Club).
