Ryan Lowe shares Josh Murphy update ahead of Preston North End’s clash with Hull

Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe has revealed that Josh Murphy is making good progress in his road to recovery from injury.

The winger is now back on the grass and could be ready to participate in some ball work next week.

Signed by Preston on a loan deal from fellow Championship side Cardiff City last summer, Murphy would have been hoping to make a positive impact for the club during the current campaign.

However, the 26-year-old has been limited to just nine appearances in all competitions due to issues with his fitness.

Currently being forced to watch on from the sidelines as a result of a calf injury, Murphy will not be included in Preston’s match-day squad for their showdown with Hull City this weekend.

The Lilywhites will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run in the Championship to four games by producing a positive performance at the MKM Stadium.

Ahead of this fixture, Lowe has shared an injury update on Murphy.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (as cited by Preston’s official Twitter account) for this weekend’s match about the winger, Lowe said: “Josh Murphy is out on the grass now and we are hoping to get a bit of ball work in to him next week and so he’s going well at the moment.”

The Verdict

This is an encouraging update as Murphy is now edging closer to making his long-awaited return to action for Preston.

Whilst the winger has yet to register a direct goal contribution in the Championship for Preston this season, he did show glimpses of his talent during the club’s League Cup clash with Sutton United last year as he scored in a 3-2 victory.
