37-year-old tipped to link up with Steve Bruce at West Brom

Former Hull City and current Macclesfield Town centre-back Alex Bruce could potentially be part of father Steve’s backroom staff at West Bromwich Albion if the latter secures a move to The Hawthorns, as per talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

The former Aston Villa manager is thought to be in advanced talks to take on the role in the West Midlands following yesterday’s departure of Valerien Ismael, with the Frenchman winning just one of his last eight competitive games at Albion.

Differing reports are emerging over the length of contract on offer – but The Athletic are reporting that the 61-year-old is close to accepting the job offer having departed Newcastle United back in October.

He endured a turbulent time at St James’ Park, especially towards the end of his tenure but has promotion-winning experience under his belt, most recently taking Hull to the top flight twice with his most recent promotion coming in 2016.

The experienced coach has experienced a tough time since his spell at the MKM Stadium with his time at Villa, Sheffield Wednesday and on Tyneside, but will be looking to guide the Baggies out of the second tier with the high calibre of players they have at their disposal.

In a bid to freshen things up and perhaps change his recent fortunes, he is reported to be considering having son Alex as part of his coaching staff, with the 37-year-old recently completing his coaching badges.

Reporter Crook also goes on to state he’s expecting Stephen Clemence to join the Baggies too if the elder Bruce’s appointment materialises, having been alongside 61-year-old at various clubs including the Tigers and Villa.
