Ryan Jack addresses Scotland retirement as Rangers midfielder sets out timeline on international decision

Ryan Jack has dismissed Scotland retirement talk after insisting he can handle the dual strain of representing club and country.

The Rangers midfielder remains a key figure for national team boss Steve Clarke and has been included in the Hampden gaffer’s squad for next month’s Euro qualifying double header with Norway and Georgia. But he’s faced calls from a section of the Ibrox faithful to consider hanging up his international boots in order to ensure he’s fit for duty with Michael Beale’s side.

The 31-year-old missed an entire year of cap opportunities - including Scotland’s Euro 2020 appearance - during an extended injury lay-off that also cost him the chance to feature as Rangers closed out their 2021 Premiership title triumph. Since then, Jack has endured regular stints on the sideline dealing with minor niggles. But the Gers ace - last week rewarded with a fresh one-year Ibrox deal - is adamant his body remains robust enough to continue balancing both his club commitments and international duties with Scotland.

He said: “Right now, aye I can do both. Right now, my mindset is that I love being part of the Scotland set-up and I love playing for Rangers.

“Right now, that’s where my mind is at. After the season is done, I want to reflect on it. Thankfully I’ve been named in the Scotland squad. I will concentrate on that and then it’s back to Rangers and my full focus will be on pre-season.”
