Rutherglen Glencairn will need to be on top form for Penicuik cup revenge mission

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Joe Pryce says his side will need to be at their best to get past Penicuik Athletic in the South Challenge Cup third round, after being knocked out of the senior Scottish Cup last month.

Glens lost 2-1 at Penicuik in preliminary round two on September 2, and while Pryce has no problem with that actual result, he’s keen to show that his side are better than that.

Pryce said: “The Challenge Cup is a big competition, we want to stay in it as long as we can.

“We saw Penicuik just over five or six weeks ago, so we know what to expect, and they will know what to expect from us, as well.

“This time we just want to put on a decent performance.

“We didn’t really play well in the last game, and that doesn’t take anything away from Penicuik, they thoroughly deserved their victory, they were by far the better team on the day.

“But we’re hoping to put on a performance this week.

“We know we’re in for a tough game, and we’re going to have to produce the best version of ourselves if we’re going to get the victory.

“Winning breeds confidence, so if you win a cup match you take that into the league game the following week.

“Winning is a habit, you want to continue doing it.

“We’re doing okay at the moment, we’ve had a decent wee start from this new squad, and we want to continue progressing with them, so any game you win helps the group move forward.”

Glencairn were due to host Troon in the Scottish Junior Cup second round on Saturday, but torrential rain has forced a postponement of that tie until Saturday, November 4.

“We were up at the park on Thursday and the pitch was absolutely perfect, but on Friday the rain just never stopped, so it didn’t really
