Rutherglen Glencairn boss says progress is the key as they continue title bid

Rutherglen Glencairn gaffer Joe Pryce says he is pleased with the first half of their West of Scotland First Division as they battle for promotion, and says progress is the key.

The Glens are currently sixth in the table, having been right at the top earlier in the campaign, but it is a very tight division where several teams are battling it out for promotion.

Petershill lead the way, having played a game more than Glens, while the likes of Drumchapel United, Johnstone Burgh, Blantyre Vics, Kilwinning Rangers are sit just above them. Renfrew and Shotts Bon Accord are also in the mix with five points separating the top eight teams.

So Pryce is pleased with the progress so far.

He said: “The season has gone relatively well. We’re always looking for more, but we had lots of new players coming into the club this season.

“There was a big turnaround of players, and for a lot of young players this is their first year really playing in the men’s game.

“They’ve done very well, and we can see them progressing constantly, which is the most important thing – we’re moving in the right direction.

“I’m really pleased with the squad, pleased with the progress they’re making.

“They’re such a young group, they’ve been excellent. You see them at every single training session, progressing, learning more, and they’re a really good group to work with, so we’re delighted to have them.”

Glencairn were beaten 2-1 away to Whitletts Victoria on Saturday, having drawn 0-0 with Kilwinning Rangers the previous weekend.

This Saturday, Glens start 2024 with a big clash at home to Shotts. Kick-off is 1.30pm.
