Russia 'stripped' of Champions League Final by UEFA as Hampden chiefs placed on alert over replacement venue call

UEFA are reportedly set to strip Russia of the Champions League final in an emergency meeting on Friday.

The conflict in Ukraine has escalated dramatically overnight with Russian troops invading the bordering country.

It's thrown Scotland's World Cup qualifier into doubt with the news that a number of Ukraine players are preparing for war.

It emerged earlier that UEFA president Aleksandr Ceferin has called an emergency meeting on Friday that will cover a number of key issues.

As well as the viability of Scotland's clash with Ukraine and Russia vs Poland, the Champions League Final will also be on the agenda.

It's currently scheduled to be held at Zenit St Petersburg's Gazprom Arena.

But The Times report that UEFA will move it on Friday with a replacement venue set to be announced.

It's unclear where the new venue will be and SFA chiefs could make a late bid for Hampden to host it.

Scotland's national stadium famously hosted the 2002 final between Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, but with potential renovations set to get underway over the summer it remains a long shot.
