Russell Martin reveals details of 'important' scouting mission as summer transfer window plans take shape

Russell Martin has revealed Swansea City's recent scouting mission proved productive as it reiterated their desire to make moves for at least two of the players assessed.

The Swansea boss and his fellow coaching staff all took in games on the spare weekend during the international break. Martin himself had no luck when it came to watching a transfer target, although the 36-year-old has stated the club are "really keen" on two of the players they viewed live in person.

"We had all of the staff and the chief scout at games like he always would be," said the head coach. "Then we had some friends of ours, I guess you would say, going out to look at some other games.

"Mine was hopeless because he didn't play which was great! But I was able to take a game in. For the other guys, it was really good. It was really helpful and productive.

"It probably just confirmed what we already thought about a couple of the players. Two of them we are really keen on, especially after laying eyes on them and the guys have seen their body language and how they are.

"It's very different when you see people live. I don't think we'd sign anyone just off video or off recommendations so it was important for us to go and see some people."

It's understood Swansea want to sign a goalkeeper, a left wing-back, a central defender and an attacker at the very least this summer. They will of course have to bolster other areas for squad depth while they could well have to make other moves if they are required to sell any of their key men.
