Russell Martin gives Swansea City team news update ahead of Blackburn Rovers clash

Swansea City could be without Kyle Naughton as they face Blackburn Rovers this weekend. 

Naughton was forced off with injury during the side’s defeat to Luton Town midweek. 

Martin revealed that the 33-year old will have to wait on the results of medical check-ups to decide whether he will be fit to play against Tony Mowbray’s side. 

“Kyle is still being assessed, we are waiting on scan results,” said Martin, via the club’s official website.

“I was hopeful after the game that it was a minor thing but he still had a bit of pain the following day so it is something we needed to have a look at.

“We will hopefully know more in the next few hours but it is looking unlikely that he will be involved at the weekend.”

However, Martin did confirm that Jamie Paterson will be involved, following his return to training this week. 

The player’s fitness will need to be assessed before they can decide on his level of involvement this weekend, but Martin was pleased to see the midfielder back in training on Wednesday.

“It was great to have Pato back, we’ve missed him,” added the Swans’ boss.

“He will need time to get back to where he was physically and mentally and doing what he does best.

“He looked fine in training and it’s just good to have him back.”

Swansea fell to a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday to Luton at home. The winner came courtesy of a 72nd minute Harry Cornick strike.

That left the side 19th in the Championship as Martin’s side have now suffered back to back league defeats.

Blackburn will be a tough test, with the Rovers currently second in the league.

The two sides meet on February 5. 

It will be important for Swansea to avoid rushing either player back from injury too quickly.
