Runners and walkers set for all new Kirkcudbright Half Marathon
Hundreds of runners and walkers will tackle the new Kirkcudbright Half Marathon this weekend.
A new route has been arranged for 2023, with Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities and Kirkcudbright Rotary taking on the organisation of the race from Kirkcudbright Academy.
The start and finish point will be Hope Dunbar Park and there will also be the shorter, five-mile Buckland Burn Up. As is tradition, walkers will take on the half marathon course.
For those not looking to go quite as far, there will be a 1km junior fun run for five to 14-year-olds as well as a minis dash around the park, which can be entered on the day.
And there will be plenty of family entertainment for those just wanting to enjoy the action.
Summer festivities chairman, John Blaikie, said: “It’s looking good, the weather is looking good – not too hot and not too windy.
“Rotary will be doing the water stations and marshalling and we also have Sea Cadets and Scouts helping out.
“We have about 150 runners, about 80 or 90 for the Buckland Burn Up and 40 or 50 walkers.”
The walkers will be set off at 10am with the half marathoners at 11am. The Buckland Burn Up will be at 11.30am with the junior races shortly after.
There is limited parking at the venue, with vehicle movements banned from 10am until all racing has finished.
And you have until the end of today to get your entries in for the main race, which can be done online at www.entrycentral.com/kirkcudbright
Limited entries will be available on the day.
