'Rude' Ange Postecoglou left puzzled by reporters' confusion as Tottenham boss asks 'Do you want me to lie?'

Puzzled ex Celtic boss Ange Postecolgou admitted he can’t get his head around why people are making such a big deal over him stating a fact that he has always won silverware in his second season - after one pundit branded him “a bit rude” in his press conferences.

The Tottenham Hotspur gaffer takes his side to last season’s FA Cup semi finalists Coventry City in the EFL Cup third round on Wednesday night and speaking at his pre-match press conference for that tie he found himself answering questions on his statement about “always” winning something in his second season.

When quizzed on that, the exasperated Aussie said: “It’s amazing isn’t it, I just stated a fact. Am I supposed to just lie and say it never happened? It’s confusing to me that people are making a big deal out of it. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to answer something that is true. If I don’t win anything in the second year this year and come out next year and say I always win something in my second year then I’ll say ‘Well, actually that’s not true’. But I’ve just said something that’s true and it seems to have upset a lot of people.

“Do you really think it’s me being boastful? How am I supposed to answer something that’s true. Say well ‘actually it wasn’t that important, they were easy competitions that’s didn’t mean anything’. If you achieve something aren’t you supposed to say ‘yes I have and I hope to do it again’. I’m not really sure why people misconstrue it about me trying to be boastful. It’s always happened and my plan is for it to happen again this year and if it doesn’t happen then I can’t answer that question in the same way again. I can say ‘mostly, not always’.”
