Ruben Amorim’s two months in charge of Manchester United have aged him by ten years, the Red Devils head coach himself recently joked.
He took over the reins in November after a successful stint with Sporting CP in Portugal, stepping into the shoes of the sacked Erik ten Hag. Since then, he's had to face a host of challenges, from the team's poor on-field performances to the external scrutiny from fans, the media and United legends.
However, from day one at Carrington, Amorim adopted a no-nonsense policy, asserting his authority in a bid to steer the club out of its current slump. The jury is still out on whether his approach will bear fruit, but it's undeniable that some of his decisions have divided opinion.
One of the most contentious issues during Amorim's reign has been the Marcus Rashford situation. The homegrown talent hasn't seen action under Amorim since December 12, after which he gave an honest interview where he expressed his desire to leave.
Since then, Rashford has made the matchday squad just once - for the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on December 30 - and Amorim remains tight-lipped about whether the striker will exit before the transfer window closes on February 3.
He addressed the situation in the lead-up to Sunday’s 1-0 win over Fulham, telling reporters: "I don't know. I really don't know. Guys, it's eight days. We will see in the end of the window what happened. And then we will talk about that in the moment."
Amorim, who celebrates his 40th birthday today, didn't hold back after the match, stating he'd choose his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital over Rashford on the bench. “We missed a little bit of pace to go and change the game and move some pieces,” he said.
