Ruben Amorim was reportedly left feeling 'exhausted' this week as he got set to be named the new Manchester United boss.

The head coach has agreed a deal until June 2027, which includes an option to extend for an additional year, and will start work on November 11 after overseeing Sporting's final two games before the international break, including a Champions League visit from Manchester City.

The ex-Portugal ace faced a 'now or never' ultimatum from United, disrupting his original plan to stay with Sporting until the end of the season. With just three days to deliberate, Amorim chose to embark on the mission to breathe new life into the Red Devils.

Following a 3-1 triumph against Nacional on Tuesday, the 39-year-old revealed to those close to him that the ordeal had left him exhausted, according to The Athletic. Meanwhile, long-time colleagues noted a visible change in his demeanour, showing he may not be totally prepared for the intense scrutiny that awaits him in England.

Addressing the media for the first time since his appointment confirmation after Friday's 5-1 victory against Estrela da Amadora, Amorim said: "The season started, we know that we started very well and then this situation with Manchester United came.

"Manchester United appear, they pay above the compensation clause and the president defends the club's interests. I never discussed anything with the president about this bargaining.

"The only request I made was for it to be at the end of the season and I was told that it wasn't possible. It was now or never, or
