Ruben Amorim makes 'proposal' claim in fresh future update amid Man United and Man City links

Ruben Amorim says he doesn't know what his future holds despite having a contract extension proposal from Sporting on the table amid links to Manchester United and Manchester City.

Heavily linked with Liverpool last season, Amorim is thought to be on the list of potential targets for both clubs - the two Premier League giants who might need a new manager under different circumstances. The 39-year-old is under contract at Sporting Clube de Portugal until 2026 and is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

During his six years in charge, Amorim has impressed and guided the Lions to two Liga Portugal titles as well as three cups. Meanwhile, United could look to replace Erik ten Hag in the near future, as his position continues to be under threat after a disappointing start to the season.

At City, Pep Guardiola's future is uncertain beyond next summer, when his contract expires. Amorim has been rumoured as a potential replacement for the Catalan after the Blues appointed Hugo Viana as their new director of football.

Speaking during his press conference ahead of Sporting's Champions League tie with Strum Graz, Amorim was once again asked about his future. He said: "The president [Frederico Varandas] is here watching the press conference as well as sporting director Hugo Viana, and I've always said that I have the renewal [option] on the table.
